- Who it helps
- Researchers evaluating AI assistance in empirical model development.
- Availability
- The October 6 explanation is public. The authors describe eight tasks and contact-based artifact access; an openly runnable benchmark was not established here.
What is held fixed
Tasks are supplied and a coding component is held constant. This evaluates experiment design within a bounded problem; it does not measure choosing the research problem itself.
Read the comparison in context
The human comparison and compute budgets matter as much as the headline result. A strong score on short, verifiable experiments leaves questions about longer projects, ambiguous outcomes and novel problem selection.
What you can do

TasteVal studies experimental judgment: choosing an experiment, examining its result and deciding what to try next.
