How the comparison works
The authors place paper titles and abstracts in a shared numerical representation. Their directional score measures how much a proposed idea extends beyond the directions represented by existing papers in its topic.
What the result can establish
Generated hypotheses scored lower on this directional measure across the tested models and fields. That result depends on the representation and evaluation protocol; it does not prove that every possible AI-assisted research process cannot create a new direction.

What you can do
- Inspect the representation, topic grouping and comparison set before using the paper’s novelty score to judge a research proposal. Open reference ↗
Where the evidence stops
The study was not reproduced. Public social searches did not establish independent original discussion; an automated review and mirrors were not counted as independent validation.
Sources read. Public evidence checked October 24, 2026 UTC. No third-party software, model inference or complete product workflow was executed.
