- The package is public within oh-my-pi. Its README specifies Bun 1.3.14 or later and describes preprocessing and provider-specific image handling. Compatibility with a particular local vision model needs its own test.
What can change during compression
The documented preprocessing includes whitespace normalization and content limits. Image dimensions and the receiving model’s visual budget affect what remains readable.
Before comparing cost, write down which information must survive exactly. File paths, decimal values and identifiers are different requirements from remembering the general topic of a conversation.
A small fidelity check
Create a fictional transcript containing two near-identical identifiers, INV-0017 and INV-0071; amounts 10.05 and 10.50; and an instruction that the second amount supersedes the first. Ask the receiving model to return all four strings and identify the current amount.
Run the same questions against the plain text and the rendered version. Fail the trial if any identifier changes or the superseded amount is selected. Record image count, model version, latency and billed usage alongside correctness.

Where the evidence stops
The local-model discussion raises questions rather than establishing a controlled benchmark. Rendering locally does not mean later inference is free or private.
Sources read. The package README and public discussion were read on October 17 UTC. No compression or vision-model execution was performed.

The record over time (1)
Dated source checks and published explanations. An observation date can differ from the original release date.
snapcompact converts conversation history into rendered image frames for a vision-capable model to read later. The compression step happens locally; the receiving model still has to interpret the images.
