- Who it helps
- Developers and researchers evaluating multi-step agent reliability.
- Availability
- The August 5 paper and methods are public. This is research evaluation guidance; the repository and offline reproduction were not executed in this session.
What the probes show
The reported experiments distinguish recoverable tool faults, partial recovery from ambiguous delegation and latent failures that repeated attempts do not fix.
Why the limits matter
Important probes use one agent over a synthetic arithmetic chain. Some repair conditions supply trusted upstream state. These conditions limit claims about autonomous fault detection in real multi-agent systems.
What you can do
- Create a small staged task with a known intermediate answer. Inject both an explicit error and a plausible wrong value, then record detection, recovery and downstream effects separately. Open reference ↗
Where the evidence stops
Model coverage and samples are limited. The study does not establish production reliability; no experiment was reproduced here.

Dated source checks and published explanations. An observation date can differ from the original release date.
- · Added to Current
OrchestraBench studies failure propagation and recovery using controlled workflows. Its experiments help separate an obvious tool error from a bad intermediate state that later steps silently reuse.
- · Research note
An earlier research entry was retained. Its working notes are excluded from the published explanation.
