- Who it helps
- Readers tracking new frontier-model entrants and organizations planning model evaluations.
- Availability
- The October 15 technical announcement is public. Microsoft describes ongoing post-training and future access for selected partners; general weights or an end-user assistant were not established by this announcement.
What the milestone means
Microsoft describes a mixture-of-experts model with 2.8 trillion total parameters and about 80 billion active per token. Its pre-training comparisons use held-out language-model measurements. Those measurements do not establish performance on a finished assistant’s real-world tasks.
What would change an adoption decision
Useful follow-ups would include post-trained model evaluations, a model card, serving requirements, access terms and independent task results. Until then, this is evidence of Microsoft’s training effort and a possible future model option.
What you can do
- Use the announcement to track the model’s development. Wait for concrete access and evaluation details before treating it as an available replacement for a working model. Open reference ↗
Where the evidence stops
