- Who it helps
- Developers building document assistants and analysts who need to inspect supporting evidence.
- Availability
- The public repository includes a local interface and agent implementation. Its setup calls for Python 3.11 or later, document preprocessing with MinerU and access to a compatible model endpoint.
Follow the evidence trail
The implementation exposes actions for navigation, extraction, focus, solving, answering and analysis. That makes selected evidence an inspectable part of the workflow.
For an original trial, use a fictional two-page report with revenue in a table and a footnote specifying the currency. Ask for the year-over-year change and currency. A correct percentage with the wrong unit should fail your check.
Check the document boundary
Review which pages and regions were used for each answer. Add a question whose answer is absent, such as an unreported country breakdown. The expected outcome is a clear missing-evidence statement.
A local interface does not establish that all processing stays on the computer. Review the configured model endpoint and what document content it receives before using confidential material.
What you can do
- Inspect the example logs and action flow, then prepare a small document with answers you can verify manually. Open reference ↗
Where the evidence stops
The paper’s benchmark results are author-reported. Parsing quality, provider cost and answer fidelity vary with the document and model; none was measured here.
Sources read. The author abstract and repository documentation were read on October 17 UTC. The proposed fixture is an original exercise and has not been run.

DocPilot is a research system for answering questions about long documents containing text, tables and images. It can navigate pages, inspect regions and use computation while forming an answer.
