- Who it helps
- Developers evaluating accented speech for recorded or telephone experiences.
- Availability
- The public card labels the model Apache-2.0, but downloading files requires accepting the gated access conditions and sharing account details. No hosted inference provider was listed.
Two stages of audio
The model produces 24 kHz speech and can convert it to 8 kHz G.711, a standard telephone audio format. The documented check evaluates the full-quality recording first. A passing check does not establish whether the converted words remain intelligible.
A voice can change between calls
The card warns that voice identity is not consistent across separate calls or chunks. Names and numbers also need attention. These limitations matter for a recurring narrator or a phone flow that must repeat an identifier accurately.
What you can do
- Read the model card’s limitations and compare the final telephone file with the intended words before adopting it. Open reference ↗
Where the evidence stops
No weights were downloaded or speech generated or listened to. Hardware costs and end-to-end latency were not measured; the model supports English rather than general multilingual synthesis.

Hurston-1 is an English speech model with regional accents and optional telephone-style output. Its built-in check runs before telephone conversion, leaving the delivered audio as a separate thing to inspect.
