- Who it helps
- Game developers and readers studying specification-driven reconstruction.
- Availability
- The October 17 process account links partial specifications and a browser port. The author says the port is not yet playable, although movement, attacks and undo are implemented. Original game assets require an owned copy.
How the reconstruction progresses
The account begins with file formats and observed rules. Questions that require playing the original become concrete observations, then acceptance tests. Later work uses DOSBox control and tracing to investigate uncertain behavior.
What readers can learn now
A useful reconstruction record names a starting state, action and expected result. For an original tiny tactics game, an example would be: a unit at coordinate (2,3), one legal move, and an expected movement-point balance. This illustration is original to Current. The actual Battle Isle rule remains to be checked against the game.
What you can do
- Read the linked process notes and separate implemented behavior from open questions. Use your own game or properly licensed materials when applying the specification-and-test approach. Open reference ↗
Where the evidence stops
Current read the author’s account but did not run the port, inspect every test or verify asset permissions. A later fetch failed, so availability may be intermittent.
Sources read. Primary material was read on October 18, 2026. The external software, account workflow and reported results were not independently executed.

The record over time (2)
Dated source checks and published explanations. An observation date can differ from the original release date.
AI Distillery describes rebuilding Battle Isle 2 by documenting game behavior, answering an agent’s questions and turning observations into acceptance tests.
An earlier research entry was retained. Its working notes are excluded from the published explanation.
