- Who it helps
- Researchers and serving-system developers evaluating long-running agents.
- Availability
- October 20 preprint and Apache 2.0 AKV reference code are public. The example stack requires Python 3.12, Rust and SGLang; its large-model GPU configuration is not evidence of laptop feasibility.
The same text can have a different cache
A key-value cache stores intermediate attention computations. AKV exposes operations for dropping or repositioning cached entries. Two requests with the same visible prefix can therefore have different cache states because earlier operations differed. Reuse must account for that history.

Keep the trajectory when changing the cache
The implementation’s example retains the full messages and expresses cache changes separately. Deleting messages from the request is a different operation. The authors report efficiency gains on selected workloads; those results were not reproduced here.

Where the evidence stops
Abstract and README checked; no server, workload or benchmark was executed. Correctness and benefit depend on the workload and cache implementation.

Adaptive KV caching lets an agent selectively retain and reposition cached attention computations. It targets the cost of long agent runs while keeping the original message history intact.
