Why it matters
Useful for shortlisting models if memory estimates and benchmark conditions remain visible. It cannot establish a laptop’s speed or a quantized model’s actual quality.
For Local-model users, Developers.

whatmodel is an open model-comparison site and repository that combines benchmark information with estimated memory requirements. It can help narrow the models to try on a machine. Its README and Reddit discussion distinguish fitting in memory from running quickly, and warn that scores may describe full-precision models rather than the quantized download you use. Checked October 16; estimates were not measured on hardware and the linked methodology page could not be retrieved.
